Ruth Nelson

Ruth Nelson (aka Katie R) was born in 1926.  She had made many friends while the family lived in Richmond.  Unfortunately she had to leave them behind when the family packed up and moved to LaPorte.  Making new friends was difficult for Ruth.  She did meet and make a friend in Louise Thimbleberry.  Her struggles in friendship led her to realize that her view of herself is more important.

Ruth often finds herself helping the maid clean the many rooms of the house.  She doesn't have to, of course, but she likes to.  In her free time, she also likes to paint and draw.  She is currently working on a drawing of the house she aspires to have one day.  Ruth is also the athletic one of the family.  She teaches the entire set of neighborhood children (including her sisters) how to play different sports.  Her personal favorite sport is underwater basket weaving (although it is hard to teach).
